It’s March 8, which means that once again communities around the world will be celebrating International Women’s Day. According to the International Women’s Day website, the objective of the international holiday is to celebrate “the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.”
On this International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the achievements of Turkish women entrepreneurs. In this short documentary, we interviewed Serap Kocaoğlu, President of the Antalya Women Entrepreneur’s Association, and Merve Tabakçıoğlu, a young aspiring entrepreneur to hear their perspectives on the condition of women entrepreneurs in Turkey today.
As discussed in the film, women face a number of disadvantages as aspiring entrepreneurs in Turkish society, stemming largely from traditional social structures and conceptions of “acceptable” and “unacceptable” careers for women. However, as also discussed in the film, things may be beginning to change…
